Sclerotherapy treats leg veins, varicose veins and “spider veins”. During this procedure, a solution is injected directly into the affected skin. It causes the treated area to well, and overtime, forms a scar tissue, which will eventually dissipate. Sclerotherapy has been performed for decades and has proven success throughout its history.
The procedure is performed in the doctor’s office. After the treated area has been cleansed, the solution is injected into the blood vessel using fine needles. The number of veins injected depends on the patient’s current condition and size and location of the veins.
Sclerotherapy can be successful for most patients. Up to 80 percent of injected veins can be eliminated during each session. When patients do not respond to the injections, an alternative solution may be provided. Spider veins respond within weeks after injection and larger veins respond in less than 3 to 4 months. If new veins appear overtime, you can return for supplementary injections.
Before the procedure, it is important to be assured of your candidacy for treatment. Dr. Alan Heller of Long Beach provides initial consultations that evaluate patients on their eligibility for sclerotherapy. You can schedule your consultation by calling our office today.
